Silver Swans® Licence

Participation in Silver Swans® Workshops is open to experienced ballet teachers wishing to find out more about approaches to teaching ballet to older learners, with a view of becoming a Silver Swans® Licensee. On completion of the workshop, RAD Registered Teachers will be automatically granted the Silver Swans® licence. All other participants will be considered. Confirmation of eligibility for a licence will be based on the observations of the Silver Swans® tutor delivering the session. The tutor will observe the participant’s secure demonstration of ballet teaching, as detailed in the list of competencies on our website.

Participants who are deemed eligible for the licence will be notified by our Membership department within 30 days following the workshop.

Silver Swans® Licence Fee

Silver Swans® Licensees are required to renew their licence annually, no later than the renewal date, to remain a Silver Swans® Licensee.

You will be invoiced by our Membership team within 30 days of completing the Silver Swans® Workshop for the cost of the annual licence fee as follows:

Mrs Carla Pinchen

RAD Examiner, Registered Teacher

On graduating from The Northern Ballet School, Manchester, UK with teaching and performing qualifications and the NBS Teaching Diploma, Carla launched straight into a teaching career, freelancing across the North West of England.

She was Head of Dance at an Independent Boarding School for 12 years, entering candidates for exams at graded and vocational levels, in addition to teaching A Level Dance. Many students progressed into full time dance training and performing careers.

Carla trained as an Examiner for the RAD in 2003 and has travelled extensively across the UK and worldwide in the role.

In 2009, Carla joined the Panel of Tutors for the RAD and has delivered courses throughout the UK and Europe, for both students and teachers.

Currently, Carla is the Principal of her own dance school in addition to being Head of Ballet at a local dance school in Cumbria. Since 2017, she has specialised in teaching Silver Swans classes, and seated ballet classes at residential care homes and is passionate about working with the older members of the community, sharing her love of ballet and dance with ladies and gentlemen up to the incredible age of 102.
