Battle 2023

“I’ve never seen anything like it.” – Audience Member 2023

On Saturday 28 January 2023 at Conway Hall, young people from across London and Essex came together to put their skills to the test and compete against one another in our annual hip hop event, Battle. The day started with a morning of high energy workshops and games, before students battled it out in front of a packed out audience and panel of judges in the afternoon. The day ended with a prize giving ceremony, where winners were announced and celebrated.

Our host for the day Yami Löfvenberg (@rowdyyami) was joined by judges BGirl Roxy (@bgirlroxy), Shanelle ‘Tali’ Fergus (@tali_1301) and Gavin Vincent (@gavin_inthemaking)!

Gavin led the morning Breaking workshop and Maria Savva (@mariasavvaxo) lead the Commercial workshop as well as a round of seven to smoke during the lunch break. The afternoon battles provided the perfect space for students to test their new found skills. The energy was high throughout and the young people made a supportive atmosphere where young dancers could express themselves through dance.
