FAQs

When can we register?

From midday on Monday 8 September.

Can a parent/carer register their child?

We require that RAD-registered teachers submit the application on behalf of their students.

Teachers will need to enter their RAD membership number along with the student exam ID number as part of our eligibility checks. It is for these reasons that we are therefore suggesting the teacher makes the booking to ensure this information is entered accurately.

How much does it cost to enter?

The participation fee is £35 per candidate.

When do I make payment?

Payment is required at the time of registering to secure a place in the heats.

Can students under age 8 be entered for Class A if they meet the Grade/level of study requirements?

Students under the age of 8 are not eligible to take part in the South East Awards 2026. Students under 8 will need to wait until a future year when they meet the age requirement.

Is there a specific date by which candidates must have turned 8?

Yes, the specific date is the 8 December (the closing date) for all the entry criteria to be met, this includes level of study and minimum age requirements.
If candidates will be taking an Exam in the winter session, please ensure you enter for the right class level that they will be studying as of the 8 December.

Why is there a minimum age?

The Awards involve a masterclass format with performance assessment, which is designed for students who:

  • have foundational classical ballet training,
  • can work independently in a group setting, and
  • are developmentally ready for the demands of the class.

What is the South East Awards 2026?

This is a special ballet event for RAD students (ages 8–17) studying in the South East of England. Participants join a masterclass-style ballet session that focuses on technique, musicality, and performance in a non-syllabus format. Finalists can win prizes of up to £200 to support their training.

When and where is the final?

The final will take place on Sunday 10 May 2026 at the Aud Jebsen Studio Theatre, RAD headquarters, 188 York Road, London, SW11 3JZ.

Can friends and family watch the final?

Yes. Audience tickets are available at £5 each and booking will open in March 2026.
