Children’s dance classes

Find out more about our wide range of children’s dance classes, our timetable, and fees. For all existing students, you will be able to book directly into your regular class. For anyone new to a class, please complete the Expression of Interest form.

The Autumn Term 2026 is a 12-week term. The Spring Term 2027 is an 11-week term (10 weeks for Friday and Saturday classes). The Summer Term 2027 is a 12-week term (11 weeks for Monday classes).

Ballet classes

Family Dance (2½–3 years) 

Designed for ages 2.5-3 years. A creative movement class for toddlers and their parent, grandparent, or carer. These classes are the perfect introduction to movement and dance and provide a springboard to the RAD Pre-school curriculum. They are designed to improve children’s confidence and coordination and develop their social skills. Using an array of props and lively music, the classes guarantee to capture the children’s and adult’s imagination.

Dance to Your Own Tune 1 (3 years) / Dance to Your Own Tune 2 (4 years) 

Movement, music, and magic in our curriculum for children aged 3 and 4.

These lively but structured classes develop children’s physical skills and encourage creativity, expression, and musicality. And, behind all the fun, they’ll be prepared to move on to ballet and other dance genres at higher levels. Please note, students attend these classes without the accompaniment of parents or guardians.

Pre-Primary (5 years) / Primary (6 years)

These structured classes develop students’ physical skills, stamina, creativity, expression, and musicality using a range of movements and musical styles. The syllabus prepares students for a successful transition to ballet and other dance genres at higher levels. Primary is the first level where students can be entered for an Assessment without the teacher present.

Graded Ballet (Grades 1–5) 

The Graded ballet classes are based around a series of exercises and dances designed to develop strong classical technique and posture, musicality, artistry, and performance. The Graded syllabus includes character work where students perform folk-inspired dances adapted for each Grade. All students are offered the opportunity to participate in Class Awards or Examinations by their teacher when considered ready. Assessments are not mandatory to move through these grades. Age guidelines are approximate for each grade.

Graded Ballet (Grades 6–8)

Pre Vocational Ballet (Grade 3+) 

A non-syllabus class for students from Grade 3 upwards, designed to build strong technique, control, and sound knowledge of ballet vocabulary in preparation for Intermediate Foundation. This class supports a smooth transition from the Graded syllabus into Vocational levels.

By recommendation of their teacher.

Vocational Ballet (Intermediate Foundation–Advanced 2) 

The Vocational Levels are designed for potential Vocational dancers aged 11+. A comprehensive study of ballet, focusing on advanced technique, musicality, artistry, and performance skills. Pointe work forms an essential part of the syllabus.

This intensive, practical training prepares students for a professional dance career or dance-related pathway. Students aiming for Vocational exams should demonstrate the maturity, discipline, and technical skill required for this level of study.

All our non-syllabus ballet classes are designed to offer an enriching and dynamic experience that stands on its own but can be a useful addition to support any syllabus class. The Advanced Non-Syllabus Ballet classes are suitable for those in Advanced Foundation+ only who are looking for a fast-paced and challenging class.

Scholars

Pointe

We offer a wide range of pointe classes for students of all levels. The classes are designed to develop strength and the necessary technical skills for pointe work.

Classes available

Foundational Pointe

This class is suitable for students enrolled in Pre-Vocational. It is designed to prepare students for pointe work and further Vocational training.

Intermediate Foundation Pointe

This class is suitable for students enrolled in Intermediate Foundation. It incorporates strengthening exercises to support the demands of pointe work. Students develop technique, coordination, and control required for their Vocational training.

Intermediate & Advanced Foundation Pointe

This class is suitable for students enrolled in Intermediate or Advanced Foundation. It is designed for students to continue building strength, control, and the technical skills required for the higher Vocational levels.

Advanced 1 & Advanced 2 Pointe

This class is suitable for students enrolled in Advanced 1 or Advanced 2 (please note, students must have been enrolled in Advanced 1 for at least one term before they are eligible to join this class). It is designed to enhance prior pointe training and continue to develop students’ pointe work skills at an advanced level.

Ballet for Beginners (13–17 years) 

Suitable for students with little or no previous experience of ballet. This non-syllabus class introduces the fundamentals of ballet technique with an emphasis on fun and enjoyment. The study of ballet improves posture and coordination, allowing expression and communication through music and movement.

Contemporary Early Years (4–6 years) 

Designed for ages 4-6 where children tell a story through dance in this inspiring and imaginative class. Children are encouraged to express themselves through music, movement, and improvisation. This class helps to prepare students for other dance genres including contemporary and jazz.

Rambert Grades (Primary & Grades 1–8)

The Rambert Grades syllabus provides Contemporary Dance training which nurtures individuality through dance—helping every student find their voice, unlock their creativity, and develop skills that go far beyond the studio. Each grade focuses on three key strands: Technical, Performance, and Creative—giving students the tools they need to thrive in the professional dance industry and beyond. All students are offered the opportunity to participate in Assessments by their teacher when considered ready. Assessments are not mandatory to move through these grades.

Jazz (4–7 and 8–12 years)  

Following a jazz warm-up and technical exercises, students learn choreography in various styles including lyrical, commercial, and musical theatre. By developing routines during each class, students gain a solid knowledge of the style before moving on to new choreography.

Musical Theatre (Primary & Grades 1–6) 

Bringing together acting, singing, and dance, this progressive training pathway will nurture confidence, creativity, and versatile performance skills, designed for all students. Whether they are taking their first steps into the world of musical theatre or preparing for advanced study, our syllabus offers clear routes for growth. From foundational skills for younger students to challenging material for higher grades, this training supports progression into vocational or conservatoire pathways. All students are offered the opportunity to participate in Musical Theatre Exams and Awards for solos, duets, trios, quartets, and groups, where students can experience the thrill of performance from the very start. Assessments are not mandatory to move through these grades.

RADiate 

We offer a RADiate class at the RAD dance school headquarters in Battersea where students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities can discover the benefits of dance in a weekly 45-minute session.

If you are interested in your child joining one of our RADiate sessions at our headquarters, please complete the registration form to join the waiting list and we’ll be in touch as soon as a space becomes available.
