This half-day interactive workshop focuses on dance medicine and injuries prevention in dance environment, delivered by Hong Kong Association of Dance Medicine and Science (HKADMS).

Ballet dancers are susceptible to injuries as they constantly put stress and pressure on their bodies. This workshop will begin by explaining the field of Dance Medicine and introducing the strategies for preventing injuries that commonly associated with dance. Participants will gain knowledge of practices to ensure safety and prevent students’ injuries while dancing.

Specifically, participants will learn how to prevent and manage dance related hip injuries, as well as understand the difference between flexibility and hypermobility to enhance their awareness of these conditions and their implication for dancers’ performance. In addition, participants will also learn techniques to strengthen and condition dancers, enabling them to adapt the techniques in teaching to increase students’ well-being.

Aims

The aim of this workshop is to equip participants with knowledge and understanding of basic dance medicine concepts and prevention in common dance-related injuries, to improve the well-being of dancers.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of the activity, you will:

  • Have a greater understanding of dance medicine topics and practice preventing common dance injuries.
  • Gain knowledge of dance-related hip injury prevention and management.
  • Have a greater understanding to identify the conditions of flexibility and hypermobility, as well as their implication for dancers.
  • Learn basic strengthening and conditioning techniques of how to improve performance and well-being of dancers’ health and safe dancing.
