This practical half-day course will cover the main developmental stages of young children in relation to the teaching of dance. We will explore the key learning outcomes of the curriculum and you will be given examples of suitable class content. By analysing class planning and delivery, you will have the opportunity to develop your own ideas and class plan in relation to content covered within the course.
Aims
The aims of this course are:
- To provide teachers with an introduction to the appropriate content and methodology for the teaching of young children,
- To highlight the important developmental milestones relevant to a child’s early dance education,
- To discuss examples of how to plan for appropriate activities will be provided, and
- To discuss ideas on how to extend and develop classes throughout the school year.
Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, participants will be able to demonstrate the ability to:
- Gain fundamental knowledge and understanding into the developmental issues relevant to the teaching of dance to young children,
- Understand how to integrate theory into practice in relation to the learning outcomes of RAD Pre-school Dance Curriculum, and
- Understand how to plan, consolidate and develop classes in relation to relevant themes of the RAD Pre-school Dance Curriculum.

This is a practical course, please ensure you have space to move and have your camera turned on to actively participate.
Tutor
Ruth Henry BA Hons LRAD ARAD RTS
Ruth graduated from the BA (Hons) in Ballet Education degree course, and attained the Licentiate of the Royal Academy of Dance (LRAD). She currently works as a freelance ballet teacher in London, UK and the surrounding areas, and tutors on numerous RAD teacher training programmes, including the LRAD. Ruth joined the panel of RAD examiners in December 2021.
