RAD South East Awards final celebrates young dance talent across the region

Following a series of four regional heats that showcased the dedication, artistry and enthusiasm of young dancers from RAD Primary upwards, candidates from across the South East of England came together for the RAD South East Awards Final on Sunday 10 May at our global headquarters in London.
Designed specifically to platform students who attend local RAD dance classes once a week, the Awards provide an opportunity for young dancers to experience performing, while celebrating their commitment, and encouraging each participant to grow in confidence.
A key element of the Awards is the opportunity for students to work with different teachers and coaches, allowing them to experience free classwork and creative approaches in a supportive and encouraging environment. After progressing through the regional heats, finalists gathered for a day of learning and performance, led by Darren Parrish PDTD DPBMN, with accompaniment by pianist Kate Dickson.
Judging the final were former RAD Artistic Director Lynn Wallis OBE and Genée International Ballet Competition (now The Fonteyn) silver medallist, Isabelle Brouwers, who brought a wealth of experience and encouragement to the event.
Awards were presented at each of the four class levels, including a Musicality Award, two runners-up commendations and an overall winner, with each prize accompanied by a monetary award. All finalists also received a certificate of participation and an RAD tote bag.
The RAD South East Awards continue to champion accessibility and participation in dance, creating opportunities for students of all backgrounds and abilities to challenge themselves, make new friendships and celebrate their shared love of dance.
The event is funded by the South East Regional Committee legacy, established 20 years ago.
