Esther Chesterman worked in education for over 25 years. After completing a master’s degree in law, she worked in corporate training, eventually owning and managing a work-based training provider.

After gaining her teaching qualifications, she took up a role at a further education college for five years where she progressed to overseeing the quality of international programmes. Moving to Cambridge Assessment International Education, she managed the development, quality and assessment of a suite of teaching and learning diplomas offered to over 13,000 schools in over 80 countries.

Esther then moved to take up the position of General Manager for NCC Education, an Ofqual-regulated awarding organisation with a network of 180 partner centres in 60 countries. She was an executive board member for NCC Education in the UK and China. In May 2021 she took up a new position as CEO of The National Extension College, which seeks to widen opportunities for learners who desire the flexible delivery of innovative courses.

Esther has held voluntary positions in the governance of schools and multi-academy trusts. She is currently a trustee of Global Girl Project, a charity supporting girls in marginalised parts of the world.
