Kelly Hough-Coles

Lecturer in Dance Education

Kelly joined the Faculty of Education in August 2021. Since graduating from the University of Hull in 2003, Kelly went straight on to complete her PGCE at Middlesex University, it was then that she obtained her first employment in education, and for almost a decade worked as a teacher of dance in a secondary school, teaching KS3-5 including GCSE Dance, BTEC, and A-Level Dance.

Upon leaving the education sector, Kelly became a self-employed practitioner teaching a range of different styles of dance and fitness to people of all ages and abilities. In 2014 Kelly dedicated her focus to research in Dance Science where she completed her master’s at the University of Wolverhampton and is now studying for her PhD – focussing on Screening Protocols for Pointe Readiness.

PhD Student, MSc Dance Science, PGCE Dance (Secondary), BA (Hons) Dance.

Research Interests and Projects

Kelly has a keen interest in Dance Science, specifically safe dance practice and applying Dance Science research as practice in Dance Education.
