Silver Swans ballet at home with Licensee Angela Grant

Angela Grant

Angela Grant (RAD RTS) is one of a trio of performing sisters, namely Rebecca Grant (Holby City) and Rachel Grant  (Die Another Day). She was trained with her sisters from an early age by Miss Nora Morrison MBE at the Nora Morrison School of Dance in Nottingham. She went on to train at the prestigious Elmhurst Ballet School (1988-1992) and then at the London Studio Centre (1992 -1994). From there she went on to dance on stage and TV,  as well as numerous commercials and music videos.

With extensive training and experience in ballet and flamenco she began conducting classes during her stay in the Philippines (1997 to 2001). This is when Angela found her passion for teaching ballet and it began in her grandparent’s Manila home, turned into a studio for the local children in the community.  Soon after she was teaching ballet for Cherish Garcia, principal of Academy One as well as at the International School and the British School in Manila.  In 2001, she returned to London, after 2 years of intensive and specialised training to qualify as a Royal Academy of Dance teacher she opened The Angela Grant School of Dance in West London.

In it’s 12th year Angela’s school continues to florish for all ages from 2.5 to 80 years old! Her classes are normally held in dance studios in Acton and Shepherd’s Bush as well as After School Clubs in the area but currently most of her classes are online. Silver Swans classes have been successfully running online since March 2020 every Tuesday morning. Angela’s older learners have enjoyed attending her weekly SS classes, most saying it’s ‘the highlight of my week!’ Her students have gained or improved in strength, mobility, coordination, grace, confidence as well as an understanding of the fundamentals of ballet technique this last year.

Jennie Istead age 80 has this to say about Angela’s SS classes:

“Not having danced since leaving Elmhurst Ballet School in 1954, and wanting to find a way to exercise during Lockdown, I was thrilled to find Silver Swans online and contacted Angela who, I discovered, had also attended Elmhurst (although many years later!). What a lucky find! The encouragement her online classes have given me and the patience she has shown have been such a boost to my confidence after so many years. Apart from Angela’s instinctive understanding of the capabilities of the more mature pupils, she is the most delightful and charming teacher. I have loved every minute of every lesson and I sincerely hope she will continue after Lockdown with her Silver Swan Zoom classes. Thank you, Angela, for giving me the opportunity to enjoy ballet classes again and for reigniting my love of ballet.”
