Dance teachers recognised by another dance awarding society

To make dance more accessible, enhance our community, and support the development of dance education around the world, we are expanding the different routes to RAD RTS.

We are accepting applications from teachers with a recognised dance teaching qualification from the following awarding societies (T&Cs apply)*:

  • ISTD – Level 4
  • IDTA – Level 4
  • Deutscher Berufsverband für Tanzpädagogik (DBfT)
  • BBO – Level 5
  • Australian Teachers of Dance (Member Teacher and Licentiate Teacher) – Level 5
  • Cecchetti Ballet Australia – Licentiate Diploma and Fellowship Diploma (awarded 2018-2022)

We look forward to welcoming the best-qualified dance teachers from other esteemed institutions globally into our prestigious dance community.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which qualifications would make me eligible to join via this route?

The following qualifications have been approved and may be used to apply via this route:

  • ISTD Level 4 Diploma in Dance Education (DDE)
  • IDTA Level 4 Diploma in Dance Teaching
  • BBO Level 5 Diploma in Dance Teaching
  • DBfT Dance Pedagogical Certificate for Professional Dancers (TPZ)

How will I prove my qualifications to be accepted via this route?

You will be asked to attach a copy of your qualification certificate when you apply, which our team will verify before your application can be accepted.

Why is the fee higher than those coming from the RAD qualification route?

The fee for new teachers joining via this route includes a £150/€170 joining fee. This fee covers the additional administration required for new teachers who have not come through the RAD qualification route. The joining fee applies to your first year only, and you will pay only the RAD Registered Teacher fee when you renew.

How long does it take to become a Registered Teacher via this route?

Once your application is received it will be reviewed by our team and you will be contacted usually within 7 working days. If your application is accepted, you can become a Registered Teacher immediately following payment of the membership and joining fee.

If we have questions about your application it may take longer to review, please allow up to 28 days.

I have a Level 4 qualification not listed, how can I become an RAD Registered Teacher?

If you have a Level 4 qualification that is not currently on the approved list, we will be reviewing additional courses periodically. Please look out for further information about this coming soon. In the meantime, you can express your interest in joining via this route.

I am already teaching RAD Ballet – why should I apply for RAD RTS?

RAD Registered Teachers can take advantage of our international reputation and enjoy exclusive benefits including but not limited to:

  • Inclusion on the Register of Teachers
  • Entering candidates for RAD exams
  • Registering yourself as an RAD exam centre
