This inspiring practical workshop is designed for dance teachers who want to expand their skills and confidence in adapting ballet repertoire for adults and older learners in a safe, engaging, and inclusive environment.
What does it entail
Moving beyond performance alone, this workshop explores how ballet repertoire can be enriched through historical, social, and cultural perspectives, enabling teachers to create more meaningful and holistic learning experiences.
Leave with fresh ideas, adaptable teaching strategies, and greater confidence in planning and delivering ballet repertoire classes that support creativity.
The workshop equates to 2.5 hours Time Valued CPD and is being delivered as part of the wider Silver Swans Celebration 2026.
N.B This opportunity is open to dance teachers of all ages to attend. It is not a requirement of your attendance to be a Silver Swans Licensee, and we welcome all RAD and non-RAD teachers to enjoy the content with an opportunity to develop their teaching practise and seek support from other teachers working in similar contexts.
About the tutor
Sarah trained with the RAD from childhood grades, through the Teacher Training College, a distant-learning degree course and into postgraduate education. Research in inclusive dance practice at Postgraduate level instigated an interest in more diverse teaching. Sarah was part of the RADs’ Dance for Lifelong Wellbeing (DfLW) project in 2012, undertaking practice based research into the benefits and considerations when teaching older learners to dance. Having contributed to the RAD Report (2013) and presented at the DfLW conference (2013), she participated in the second phrase of the DfLW project (2017) and acted as mentor to other researching teachers. From these beginnings came the creation of the RAD Silver Swans ballet programme, formally launched in 2017, the benefits of which Sarah is passionate about.
