A one-day practical course in which participating teachers will gain an understanding of how to teach the Grade 6, 7 and 8 syllabi, focusing on either the female work. Learning activities will focus on creating appropriate development exercises to encourage an accurate interpretation of the criteria used in the mark scheme of the examination.
Aims
The aim of this one-day practical course is to boost participants’ confidence in teaching of the RAD’s Grades 6, 7 and 8 syllabus through enhancing their knowledge and understanding of the criteria used in the mark scheme of the examinations.
It will:
- Attendees at the course will be better able to understand the ‘how’ of teaching the syllabus, increase knowledge of the assessment criteria and gain insight into how the candidates are generally coping in the examinations.
- Look in depth at the philosophy of Grades 6, 7 and 8
- Offer a chance to improve understanding of specific areas within the syllabus, particularly in regards to technical, musical and performance aspects of the work, as identified by examiners during examinations.
- Reflect on the relevance and interpretation of the assessment criteria in selected exercises and dances
- Provide a platform to discuss, explore and develop strategies to strengthen areas of the work
- Support the creation of development exercises for students by defining the requisite skills and knowledge to do so.
Learning Outcomes
Participants will be able to:
- help their learners develop the necessary strength and understanding to achieve the requirements of the assessment criteria in the examination.
- demonstrate, physically and/or through explanation, an understanding of the technique/s at each level
- discuss the relevance and interpretation of the assessment criteria in selected exercises and dances

Participants should have knowledge of:
- Exercises and dances of the RAD Grades 6, 7 and 8 syllabus
- The RAD Grades 6, 7 and 8 Examination and Class Award criteria
- The RAD Grades 6, 7 and 8 Exam mark scheme
- The RAD Grades 1-7 solo performance awards mark scheme

Ms Adeline Leong
RAD Examiner
In 1993, Adeline graduated from the College of the Royal Academy of Dance with the Diploma for Licentiate (LRAD) and also attained the Advanced Executant Certificate (ARAD).
Since completing the RAD Master of Arts in Education (Dance Teaching) with distinction and receiving the Professor Joan White Prize for her final research project, Adeline continues to find joy in pursuing knowledge with her learners in search of relevant approaches through active questioning and reflection on teaching practices.
Her previous positions include being the principal and director of her own dance school from 1996 to 2018 and a dance elective subject teacher to middle and high school students at an international school in Kuala Lumpur for 12 years.
Adeline’s current appointment with the RAD Panel of Examiners, along with her role as a tutor for the Continuing Professional Development and Certificate in Dance Teaching programmes, further contributes to her professional portfolio and learning.
