Examiner
Sharon Howells
Royal Academy of Dance Teachers Diploma (Hons)
International Examiner, Registered Teacher and Life member
Sharon has passed papers in Child Psychology, Dance History and Anatomy. She is an active member of the Ballet, entertainment, and charity scene in Christchurch. She was a former President and Patron of the Christchurch Ballet Society during which she organized various events, including the Prestigious New Zealand National Ballet Award Competition and many events for all Dance Students in Christchurch.
Over 25 years Sharon has been an Examiner for the Royal Academy of Dance and was appointed 6 years ago New Zealand tutor to the Silver Swans Course
Sharon teaches movement, dance and drama in selected schools and directs and choreographs major productions. Sharon has lectured at Canterbury University. She is actively involved with many dance competitions throughout the South Island, for which she travels to adjudicate when time allows for it. Sharon has experienced many dance types: from classical ballet to tap, jazz, and even flamenco. In her younger years, Sharon was a promising classical, light musical singer, winning many awards and lead roles in numerous professional Musical Theatre Productions that toured throughout the South Island. This wealth of knowledge is passed on in her teaching.
Due to a serious back injury Sharon has not stopped but takes it easy. This in turn helps her as a Silver Swan Tutor convey to teachers what Silver Swans candidates go through and the limits, they have completely different from teaching or taking the younger dancer.
Her love for drama and music and ballet/dance along with a bubbly personality brings to her teaching and classes a vibrant way to conduct Silver Swans in a positive caring and fun manner. Silver Swans is a very exciting concept that’s taking the World by Storm.
