South East RAC Awards
The finals of the South East RAC Awards drew to a close on Sunday 7 May, after 100 candidates, their supporters and teachers gathered at RAD headquarters.

After over 600 students had attended the heats running from January to March, the finalists got to compete across four classes conducted by Darren Parish and accompanied by Kate Dickson.

Judged by Andrew Ward (ex-Royal Ballet) and Hikaru Kobayashi (First Soloist of The Royal Ballet), there were four worthy winners. The three older winners each received a place at an RAD summer school, and the youngest winner received a ‘West End Experience’ including Royal Opera House vouchers. First and second runner-up prizes were also awarded in each category.

High standards

The judges were very impressed with the standard right across all four classes and remarked that this was a really good opportunity for younger children, some of whom only attend class once a week. Andrew Ward made a specific point of not only congratulating all the candidates and their teachers, but he also gave special thanks to the parents for their endless dedication and support which made it possible for the candidates to reach this standard.

Many thanks to Penny Parks, the Chair and her South East Committee members for their hard work throughout all the heats and the final. Visit the website for more information and the full list of winners.
