Advanced 1 (Female) and Advanced 2 (Female): Focus on Variations (London, UK)

A one-day practical course in which participating teachers will gain a detailed understanding of the steps and movements of each of the Advanced 1 (Female) and Advanced 2 (Female) levels. Learning activities will focus on the development of correct technique through the progression of vocabulary, differences in music and style for each variation. The course will also provide the opportunity to discuss the related examination assessment criteria and exercises for the development of correct technique.

Aim

The aim of this one-day practical course is to boost participants’ confidence in teaching the variations for the Advanced 1 (Female) and Advanced 2 (Female) syllabi variations through enhancing their knowledge and understanding of technique, style and musicality.

Learning Outcomes

You will be able to:

  • demonstrate, physically and/or through explanation, an understanding of the technique and movement quality in each variation,
  • demonstrate, physically and/or through explanation, an understanding of the correct style and performance elements for each variation, and
  • discuss musical interpretation.

You will have knowledge and understanding of:

  • approaches to help your learners develop expressive and confident performance,
  • the relationship between elements of technique, style, musicality and overall performance outlined above, and
  • the assessment criteria for Examinations (Female and Male).

Recommended Preparation

Participants should:

  • familiarise themselves with the Benesh Movement Notation (BMN) and/or the word notes for the variations, and
  • study the vocabulary in the variations and refer to the Foundations of Classical Ballet Technique publication to ensure they have an understanding on how the movements and steps should be executed.

Tutor

Emily Anne Koschyk RAD Teaching Dip, Dip LCDD, ISTD DDE

Emily trained at London College of Dance and Drama in Bedford and graduated with Distinction in Teaching Studies.

In 1988, she moved to Germany and danced in national television and theatre productions. She taught in various schools around the country before opening her own school in 1998.

During this period, she also led a full-time 3-year teacher-training programme, from which many young aspiring teachers successfully graduated.

In 2020, Emily relocated back to the south of England and now teaches on a freelance basis. She conducts workshops and teaches at various summer schools in Europe.

Since its inception in 2004 Emily has been a tutor for a number of modules of the Royal Academy of Dance’s CBTS and tutors on the PDPTC Programme based in Berlin. She is an examiner and has been invited to be a CPD tutor for all levels from Pre-Primary to Advanced 2 and travels extensively in these roles.
