Ballet in the 21st Century: Re-thinking the possibilities: Focus on Wayne McGregor CPD Webinar

The webinar will introduce contemporary imaginings of ballet by Wayne McGregor since his appointment as Resident Choreographer at The Royal Ballet in 2006.

The webinar will explore three ballets from McGregor’s significant body of work created for The Royal Ballet: Chroma (2006), Infra (2008) and Woolf Works (2016). Participants will gain insight into selected moments from choreographies, including the radical shifts in the vocabularies that have now become synonymous with the ‘contemporary’ ballets by McGregor. Through exploring different versions of Chroma by companies including the Australian Ballet, Dutch National Ballet, and the National Ballet of Canada, participants will gain further insight into McGregor’s rethinking of the boundaries and expectations of ballet.

Aims

The aims of this activity are to:

  • provide insights into the contemporary shifts in the ballet repertoire of Wayne McGregor in the early 21st Century,
  • gain knowledge and understanding of McGregor’s Chroma (2006), Infra (2008) and Woolf Works (2016), and
  • gain appreciation of McGregor’s contemporary balletic choreography for The Royal Ballet, and subsequent restagings for companies such as Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, the National Ballet of Canada, Het Nationale Ballet (Dutch National Ballet), and the Australian Ballet.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of the activity, you will:
